Family-Like Care

 

Family-like care is a form of long-term alternative care where children and young people who lack adequate family care live. It aims to provide a safe, stable, and supportive environment similar to a family through a range of services provided by qualified caregivers alongside a multidisciplinary team, promoting the personal and social growth and development of the children and young people.

This service is based on the following principles:

1. Providing Long-Term Alternative Care: Ensure long-term alternative care for children and young people who lack adequate family care.

2. Safe and Stable Family-Like Environment: Provide an alternative family environment that offers the security and stability necessary for healthy growth.

3. Supporting Growth and Development: Offer emotional, social, and psychological support to ensure the healthy growth and development of the children.

4. Enhancing Sense of Belonging: Create an environment that mimics a natural family, helping children feel a sense of belonging, love, and support.

Characteristics of Family-Like Care Service:

 

1. Provide residential care in an environment called an SOS Family.

2. One or two caregivers live permanently with the children and young people within the SOS Family.

3. Offer alternative care for a group of (6-8) children or young people within each SOS Family.

4. Cater to children and young people who lack adequate family care and require long-term care.

5. The caregiver independently manages the SOS Family, promoting family and children's independence with organized support from a multidisciplinary team.

6. Provide permanent housing for children with caregivers in a setting as close as possible to traditional families in the community.

Through this service we aim to:

· Emotional and Psychological Support: Provide emotional and psychological support through close and stable relationships with caregivers, enhancing self-confidence and a sense of security.

· Education and Training: Offer educational and training support to ensure academic and professional development, focusing on life and social skills.

· Emotional and Psychological Stability: Create a stable family environment that contributes to emotional and psychological stability, supporting balanced and healthy growth.

· Developing Social Skills: Encourage positive social interactions and the development of social skills through living in a family environment.

· Enhancing Self-Confidence: Build children's confidence in themselves and their abilities through continuous emotional and psychological support.

· Supporting Educational and Professional Growth: Provide educational and training support to ensure academic and professional development, helping children achieve their full potential.
