SOS Children

SOS Children's Villages is committed to providing care to the most vulnerable children around the world.

We have a proud history of working in Syria for over 49 years, including challenging times in the country.

SOS Children’s Villages Syria has operated in the country since 1975, navigating complex challenges during periods of significant political and social upheaval. Our work is guided solely by the best interests of children and young people, ensuring their welfare irrespective of their backgrounds or circumstances.

The SOS Children's Villages Syria worked under the umbrella of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, as is common among humanitarian organizations in the region. This arrangement enabled us to provide vital services directly to those in need without undue interference.

We are aware of past concerns regarding the care provided to children classified as “security cases” during the civil war. These children had been referred to our programs by previous Syrian authorities, and their care was consistent with our principles of prioritizing the safety and well-being of children in vulnerable situations. SOS Children's Villages International has fully supported previous efforts to trace these children and reunite them with their families where possible, and in line with international best practices.

SOS Children’s Villages Syria was contacted by the family of Ms. Rania Abbasy Yassin to enquire whether her six children are in SOS care. The association provided them with the needed support to ensure that her children are not under SOS care. The family was also informed of the association’s readiness to provide full support to help the family obtain any information related to their children.

The association hopes that this family reunites with all its members soon.
